So I told myself that I would never give away this recipe, but who am I to deny the people a good brownie while we are all in lockdown?! This is not the recipe to go with if you are watching your figure. But on the real, I feel like this grey Cape Town weather calls for a cheat day. Treat yo’self! These brownies are the ones for any occasion on any day! They are super chocolaty and oh so addictive! Also, you will probably have all of the ingredients in your pantry already so you will not have to leave the house to get anything. #Winning! The original recipe makes quite a cakey brownie, but with a recent caramel addition I have made to the ingredients, you can achieve the fudgiest caramel chocolate goodness you can imagine. It’s also a great base recipe for any other brownie variations you may want to experiment with. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of cinnamon for a bit of a spicy edge or a handful of raspberries for some fruity tartness (makes them feel a bit more healthy too). Get creative or stick to the OG recipe below. Recipe: Ingredients:
1 cup vegetable/sunflower oil
2 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla essence
4 large eggs
½ Teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
⅔ cup cocoa powder
½ can of caramel treat lightly beaten (optional) Method:
Mix oil, sugar and vanilla until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing for approximately 1 minute in between. Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Pour into greased (lined with baking paper) 9x13 inch pan. Optional: Spoon blobs of caramel into the batter and run a fork through in swirly motions. Bake for 25 minutes or until stick test comes out clean. The edges of the brownies will pull away from the pan when they are done. Cool completely before cutting.
