Groomed by Earth’s founder, Diana Musoni is a simple 26-year-old inhabitant of Earth who believes that nature has all that we need to be happy, sane, fed, and healed with a variety of remedies. She is a qualified Interior Designer who finished her fourth year of study with a thesis that merged her two passions; hair and design. There she designed stores, spas, and hair salons with different contexts put to play. Here is her story:

One Tuesday night, as a 17-year-old who had to go to school the next day, I stared at my long relaxed hair in the mirror. I had braids at the time and could not help but wonder how I would look with natural hair. I am a rather spontaneous person so I jumped for a pair of scissors and aimed at the tip of my new hair growth. I intentionally began at the front, which means no turning back. I cut chunks of hair with the tune of Doo bee Doo by Freshlyground in the back of my mind. Twenty minutes later, I had cut off approximately 40cm of my relaxed hair and was left with 1.5cm of natural hair.

That was the beginning of my natural hair journey which came with a struggle of what products to use. I loved hair and would braid my friends’ hair for extra pocket money in high school. At the back of my head, I knew I wanted to run a hair salon/spa at some point in my life.

By the age of 22, I was fed up with the products I was using on my natural hair, not to mention a terrible perm that left me with a 10cm diameter bald patch in the center of my head. This was just a thread of what was also happening to my health at the time. I was in and out of the hospital with a rainbow collection of tablets. I read up on natural remedies and decided to try a vegetarian diet. This transition brought me to good health and in turn, made me more intentional about the products I used on my skin and hair. During this search to wholesome living, I began to use cold-pressed oils and shea butter. I was amazed by the outcomes and decided to try to get a gentle solution for my brother who had struggled with Psoriasis for over 5 years. Within 2 months, he got off prescriptions and his hair minimally grew from the scalp patches caused by psoriasis. He is still a loyal client.

I have genuinely enjoyed researching natural products from the African soil that benefit the users and the harvesters of the produce while creating relationships with the women who wholeheartedly work with Groomed by Earth.
